Schroh Families of the Volga Village Volmer (Vollmer)

Member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia.

This site is owned by Angela Gartner.

The Schroh family that is listed in the 1766 Volmer Original Settlers List is from Kurpfalz, Kaiserslautern, Germany.  Lorenz Schro, his wife, 3 sons, and 2 daughter arrived in Volmer on July 18, 1766.  By 1798 two of the sons remained in Volmer.  It is not clear if the third moved or died.  He likely died as the 1798 Census usually will indicate who moved and in what year.  There is a note for a Schroh male who was single who moved to Seewald (Verschvye). With out knowing this mans age it is to hard to establish if he is a son or a  grandson of Lorenz Schro.

In the 1834 Volmer Census there are 3 Schroh Head of Households listed.  Each of these families are getting quite large.  There is also no mention of any one moving to another colony.

By 1850 there are still 3 Schroh Head of Households listed, and the families have grown even larger.  I love the 1850 Village Census Records because they list maiden names, and I found 3 Schroh brides that stayed in Volmer.

I hope this helps and gives you some direction in your research.  Click on the below pictures to see the surname lists for each of the census records.  There is also a link to order a copy of your own.

Alternate spelling:

Schro, Schruh, Schrug, Shroy, Schrou, Schrow

Loose Ends…

· Lorenz’s daughters did not marry with in the Volmer village. It is possible they died before the census was taken.  Since the death of a woman or girl is not recorded it is hard to tell. If a young woman marries into another village it is usually mentioned.  I would be willing to bet that both of the daughters likely died.  The only way to find them is to see if they are found in another 1798 census.  1798  is our only chance to find them since the 1834 census does not record maiden names.

· Check the 1798 Seewald Census for the Schroh male.  It may indicate who his father was and his age.

· Find a pictures of the families that immigrated to Canada.  If anyone has a picture and can scan it for me I would live to put it on the website.

· We are also looking to our US and South American families.  If you have found anything on the net or have info please let me know.

MICHAEL SCHROH & MARIA JUNGHEIM

Paulette Breaks has sent me the following information for her family.

Michael Schroh (b: ?) married Maria Jungheim (b: ?) in Volmer on February 24, 1908.

They immediately set out for Canada along with Maria’s parents Michael Jungheim Sr. (b: ?) and Anna Elizabeth Jungheim (nee: Gloran, b: ?). Maria’s brother Michael Jungheim Jr.(b: ?) also came with them at the same time.

*Note – Paulette’s mom, and the Luseland book, Hubs and Spokes, says that they all came together, however on one of the passenger lists she found a Michael Jungheim (19) who came alone to Rosthern, Sask.  She tells me that she has not found the passenger list that the Schroh/Jungheim’s are on (yet), but she will continue to look.
