The Brost family arrived in Volmer (Vollmer) on July 18, 1766. The Original Settlers List for Volmer lists Michael Brost, his wife and young son as coming from Kurmainz, Burg. Michael is not listed in the 1798 Volmer Census, however, there is a Brost Head of Household listed. It is easy to assume that this is Michaels’s son, and the fact that this son is not included in the Originals Settlers List is because he was born right after.
Anyway, with that all being said, lets start with the family that is listed in the 1798 Volmer Census Record. Hieronimus Brost and his wife have 1 son and 3 daughters as well as an adopted son.
Hieronimus Brost is also found in the 1834 Volmer Census. The number of sons that live with him at the time of the 1834 Census is 3. Two of them are married and have children, the third son is still single. There is no mention of who Hieronimus’s daughters may have married and since the 1834 Volmer Census did not include maiden names we don’t even know if they stayed in Volmer of if they went to other Colonies.
In the 1850 Volmer Census Hieronimus’s death is recorded and all three of his sons are married with good sized families. Most of the maiden names were recorded in the document and there are many Brost brides that remained in the Volmer Village.
I am interested in finding out which Brost men married two Gartner sisters. They were sisters of Johan Adam Gartner who was born after 1858 and he married a Katharina Schmidt. Johan Adam’s sisters names were Katherine and Elisabeth. Both sisters were said to have married Brosts.
These Brost families may hold important Gartner information. I need to know who Johan Adam, Katherine & Elisabeth’s parents were. If I can figure that out I can finally link our family to a Gartner family Tree from the 1850 Volmer Census. |
